The Best Places to go Sledging in Hemel Hempstead

Whether the snow is currently blanketing the ground or you’re just getting prepared for when it does, I turned to the people of Facebook and asked them the best places to go sledging (and of course build snowmen) in Hemel Hempstead.

Here’s what they had to say…

1. Keens Field - If you’re in the Adeyfield area, Keens Field is the mecca for local sledging. I’m not going to lie, if we get a lot of snow it’s probably going to be busy so get there early or expect crowds.
Easily access the field from Downside or Knightsbridge Way.

2. Gadebridge Park - Gadebridge Park is a great option if you’re close to town or in Gadebridge. This is a shorter hill than Keens Field and has a long flat section at the end for stopping so is better for the younger children or those who want to take it a bit easier. There is also lots of space away from the hill for snowman and igloo building.
Once you’ve finished and you need warming up, why not head into one of the many cafes on the Old Town High street.

**Although there is technically a large hill the other side of the Leighton Buzzard road, opposite Gadebridge Park, I haven’t included it here as the hill finishes right on the main road not giving you a lot of opportunity to stop.
All that stands between you and the main road is a thin line of bushes.

3. Spring Fields - For those in Gadebridge and Warners End, head to Spring Fields off of Galley Hill and Warners End Road. This field has a half pipe shape and is nice and long so there is plenty of space to spread out and a very low risk of straying into any roads.
Can also be accessed via Butts End and Spring Lane.

4. Bunkers Park - For those over in Leverstock Green and Bennets End - Bunkers Park is for you. The hill you want is in the back field so if you’re coming from Bedmond road you’ll have to walk through to the back field.
This is a BIG hill and isn’t for the faint hearted.
There is a second hill over the road but there are sometimes cows in there.

5. Jocketts Park & Shrubhill Common - Perfect for those in Chaulden. From what I can see on google maps, Jocketts Park looks perfect as the hill leads away from a quiet road into a line of trees.

6. Durrants Hill - Over towards Apsley is Durrants Hill. There is a small park there with a gentle slope so best for younger children. This field does look like it has the canal right next to it so make sure you choose somewhere safe and don’t end up in the water!

Have I missed out your favourite sledging spot? Let me know and I’ll add it to the list.
