Celebrate turning 1 with a Cake Smash in Milton Keynes!

I absolutely love it when a newborn I have photographed comes back from their Cake Smash or Birthday Photo Shoot. I’ve actually been photographing Theo and his family for over 6 years, which makes it even more special.

When Theo’s mum got in touch she told me she wanted something simple and neutral with greens, creams and nature. I got to work, finding the perfect shades of sage green and leaves to go with my collection of neutral balloons. I absolutely love the outcome and they did too.

We started the photo shoot with some photos of Theo on his birthday backdrop in this gorgeous jumper. He was a BIG fan of the balloons!

Next, it was time for cake!

I ask parents to provide their own cake to prevent any allergy issues. Some people decide to get one from a supermarket, some get one made and others make one themselves. You can read my article about how to choose the best Cake Smash Cake Here.

When it comes to the cake, some babies dive right in and others are a little hesitant. Theo needed a little bit of encouragement and the help of a wooden spoon but was soon digging in.

After the cake smashing is over there is an option of having ‘splash’ photos in the little tin bath.

Most babies LOVE this part of the photo shoot but Theo wasn’t really into it. He much preferred simply being naked and playing with the balloons - so that’s what we did!
These photo shoots are all about your little one having a fun time and getting gorgeous images so if that means we change the plan depending on their mood - that’s fine! Some babies love the cake, some babies love the bath - they’re the boss.
