Rhea's Sleepy Newborn Photo Shoot | Hemel Hempstead

Rhea's family first got in touch when she was 2 weeks old.

As newborn shoots usually take place in a babies first 5 - 10 days, I booked them in nice and quickly so we could capture all those tiny details before she grew too much.
There was no need to worry about her being more alert though - she was the perfect sleepy baby for the majority of her photo shoot!

I have people travel to me from all over Herts, Beds & Bucks with their newborns, but when Rhea's dad got in touch, I realised they only lived a few streets away - nice and easy!

We started her photo shoot with some family photos.  Her big sister was a complete chatterbox but was perfectly behaved and you could tell she loved her new sibling.

To get Rhea into a nice deep sleep, I wrapped her and placed her in a little wicker basket.  I just adore this wooden flooring with all the neutral tones.

When I first place a newborn onto my giant beanbag, I let them settle down and get comfy.  This is a great opportunity to get some less posed, more natural images.  Most babies love a good stretch!

Now, the gentle posing could begin!

Starting on her side, I let her curl up comfortably and gave her a little teddy to hold (fun fact: that teddy was made by my mother in law!)
From there I moved her onto her tummy and used a few different coloured newborn wraps.

Who said blue was just for boys?!

A lot of newborns tend to wake up when moving from their tummy to their back and need settling again, but some, like Rhea, just stay in a lovely deep sleep.

I love this photo in both black and white and colour.  Which do you prefer?

There's no fun in sleeping the whole photo shoot!

Time to open those eyes, have a stretch and pull us some funny newborn faces!

When I capture newborn details I generally offer both black and white and colour to the parents to choose from.  My heart usually lays with black and white but with Rhea it was colour all the way.

Now we couldn't let miss chatter box be so well behaved for the entire shoot without letting her star in her own photos as well!

As well as the digital images, Rhea's mum and dad chose this large 20x30 Metal to hang in their living room.  Isn't it gorgeous??
