Professional Baby Photos | Hemel Hempstead | Freya

Although you’ll generally hear that newborn photos are best taken when a baby is under two weeks old, I would never turn away a baby for being ‘too old’ for photos.

I may change my setups a little and we may get more awake, unposed photos than usual, but if you’ve missed that 2 week time slot, there’s no reason to panic.

Freya booked in for her newborn shoot when she was 5 weeks old. She came with her mum, dad and big sister Skyla and was absolutely gorgeous.

Although I had mainly planned for awake photos, Freya beat the odds and slept like a trooper to begin with.
Not only did she sleep soundly while wrapped and having photos with her big sister, she also stayed in a deep enough sleep that she was comfy curled up on her tummy as well.

Just look at those newborn baby rolls!

It would be boring if she slept the whole time, right? Just check out the photo below. So full of expression.

Is that almost a little smile I see there? By this point her arms and legs we flailing with joy as she stretched and kicked to her hearts content. She also had such great eye contact.

Whatever age the baby, I will also get detail photos if I can (if they’re not crawling away too fast or wriggling too much!)
These little details stay small for such a short amount of time that I think it’s important to capture them whenever you can.

A beautiful little family.

Thank you so much for coming to me for your newborn photos Freya. I hope I get to photograph you again in the future.

If you’ve missed that two week window that professional newborn photographers talk about so much, don’t worry! Photos of ‘older newborns’ are just as beautiful. You even get the added bonus of eye contact and maybe a few smiles.
